About Port Pirie West
Primary School

Welcome to our website! We hope that it provides a snapshot of our vision ‘A quality learning environment where everyone belongs’.

We are committed to providing all students with the academic and social skills that they need to be successful in learning and life. Students learn these skills in a positive and supportive learning environment underpinned by our values of Respect, Responsibility, Confidence, Persistence and Kindness. Every student has a ‘Check in Chart’ and tool box of strategies to self-regulate behaviour. Interoception activities occur for 2-3 minutes after each break to prepare the class for their learning.

PPWPS is co-located with the Port Pirie West Children’s Centre, Port Pirie Childcare Centre and Dental Clinic, providing a hub of learning and services for the community.

Intervention programs in Literacy, Mathematics and social skills development are in place and specialist teaching is provided in Health and PE, The Arts, Science and HASS. Our school was allocated $1m to support the SA Government commitment to STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). This funding has provided us with state of the art learning areas and equipment to support exciting and successful teaching approaches.

There is also a strong involvement in SAPSASA sport and a wide range of sports are available in the area. The school has a choir, which joins with other schools in the area for a community performance annually.

Student leadership is encouraged through participation in the SRC and numerous formal leadership roles (Student Leaders, Aboriginal Leader, Arts Leader, ICT Leader and Sports Leaders).

An active Governing Council ensures community participation in current and future planning.

Our Site Improvement Plan has two priorities, the first focuses on Maths and the second on increasing reading achievement.

We welcome your enquiries and would be happy to take you on a tour of our school!

Kind regards, Fiona Perry – Principal
